Governors Island Food Truck Festival

[Photo from last year on a rainy day]

I'm about a week late on this one, but don't worry: you didn't miss anything. Besides the fact that I always love a seven-minute boat ride (and stunning views of lower Manhattan) the food truck fest was not anything to write - even email - home about.

We waited in line about 20 minutes for some nicely spiced basmati rice and some sub-par chicken Tikka Masala. For six dollars, we felt we couldn't really complain. And besides, there was still dessert to look forward to!

My four dollar scoop of 'artisanal' ice cream is barely worth mentioning, especially compared to this WONDER my loyal roommate discovered from the Kelvin Slush Truck.

From their website:

Our unique slush flavors such as Spicy Ginger, Tangy Citrus or Green & Black Tea are combined with your choice of real puréed fruit, creating endless combinations for a super cold, super refreshing slush.

And then you can ADD A SCOOP OF ICE CREAM. My slurping companion chose the ginger base with a swirl of mixed berry. (And the scoop of ice cream.) Fortunately, the Slush Truck is all over NYC so you can go check it out yourself! Follow them on Twitter for locations, @KELVINSLUSH.

  1. Sounds wonderful! Governor's Island is so pretty right now. I've walked past Kelvin's truck in Chelsea a bunch of times and have always wondered what it's like. I'll definitely have to stop for a frosty treat next time!
