Risotteria has ciabatta!
Maybe we can all agree that the worst thing about being gluten-free (besides getting glutened, ouch) is the inconvenience of sudden hunger. Last Friday I had to run out somewhere and there was just not enough time for dinner. The options for grab 'n' go are slim, even in New York - especially on a blustery winter's evening when you don't particularly feel like an ice-cold smoothie. Especially when what you want is melted cheese.
I decided to treat myself to some pizza from Risotteria. It is just down the street from my office, which is both fabulous and terrible at the same time. I went online to check their menu, and, lo and behold - new bread! A sandwich, oh the joy and convenience of it all. (Please note that the photograph above is, indeed, taken in transit. I was walking and eating at the same time. No one is perfect.)
So I called up the restaurant and spoke to an extremely helpful and nice girl who nearly matched my enthusiasm about the bread. Transcript of conversation follows, not verbatim as of course I am sort of making it up from memory.
Me: Hi, can I order something to pick up?
Risotteria Girl: Sure, what would you like?
Me: OK so, I see you have BREAD on your menu now. New bread. Can you... make a sandwich on it?
RG: Yes, of course! It's the same panini menu we've always had, only we've updated the bread.
Me: Oh. Now see... I'm already walking over and I don't have the menu. Can you tell me....which one is the most delicious sandwich?
RG: Well... I do like the tomato pesto mozzarella.
Me: OK, I'll take it! Now, listen. I've had the panini there before. It's not on that weird cornbread, right? I mean I actually didn't like it that much before.
RG: No, it's new. You'll like it. I promise.
Me: Good, because I am committed to my decision. I will be there in five minutes.
Success! The oven roasted tomatoes there are really something else. It makes two sandwiches, which is good, because it was expensive. It comes with bread sticks TOO and I also bought a chocolate chip cookie, because there was a snowstorm, and that's just how I roll. (Bread pun totally intended.)
Oh, and, the bread is lovely. Crispy, light, buttery, perfect. I do recommend it.
