Gluten-Free in Iowa City

I come to you live from Fairgrounds Coffeehouse in Iowa City, where I just enjoyed NOT ONLY a banana walnut waffle but a vegan veggie hummus teff-wrap sandwich (and a coffee, and a tea) because I am hunkered down here all day figuring out What It Means To Be A Graduate Student. This much I have figured out: it is a lot of work. Which brings me directly to my next point, a bittersweet one—this blog will be on an indefinite hiatus.

I began this blog to share all the gluten-free goodness New York City had to offer. I found that many times, tips from friends were more up-to-date and accurate than Google searches. I know for certain I will not be able to keep that data up-to-date, as I teach two sections of freshman rhetoric...and as I live thousands of miles away.

Optimistically, I'd cook like a fiend and share all my recipes—still a possibility. But the blog maintenance is not going to be a possibility. I have to focus on my own writing—the kind that can't be frittered away for free on the internet. Except for my regular blog, which you can find at okdunn.tumblr.com, if you're interested! And my regular twitter, @okdunn.

Suggestions for tasty gluten-free eating in Iowa City:

Atlas farm to tabley American fare with very knowledgeable and helpful service
Masala vegetarian/vegan options as well as some harder-to-find South Indian options like dosa and idly!
Red Avocado organic, vegan restaurant with lots of gf options

Happy & healthy eating!

Olivia
